Advil

A

Ibuprofen
Pain, fever, inflammation

AE: dizziness, HA, rash, edema, epigastric pain, heartburn, nausea, tinnitis, increased risk of CV event, GI bleed

DDI: Aspirin, Pain medicaitons, Beta blockers

Take with food or milk to minimize GI upset.
Risk of bleed increases with concurrent alcohol.
Use lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible.
Do not use prior to or following cardiac surgery.

Norco, Vicodin, Lortab

A

Hydrocodone/ APAP
Pain

AE: Constipation, Extreme weakness, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, drowsiness

DDI: Pain Medications

Acetaminophen content and max daily dose 3 g.
Careful opertating machinery
BBW: risks of opioid addiction, abuse, and misuse.

Prinvil, Zestril

A

Lisinopril (ACE inhibitor)
HTN, HF, MI

AE: dry cough, hypotension, hyperkalemia, angioedema

DDI: Antidiabetic medications, other hypotensive medications

Signs of angioedema.
BBW: Discontinue as soon as possible when pregnancy is detected

Lopressor

A

Metoprolol tartrate
HTN, MI

AE: bradycardia, bronchospasm, hypotension

DDI: Other hypotensive medications,

Advise diabetic patient to carefully monitor blood glucose as drug may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia.

Counsel patient against sudden discontinuation of drug.
