Coulombs Law Flashcards
What is Columbus law?
Any two point charges exert a force on each other which is proportional to the product of their charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
The equation for Coulomb’s law.
F = kQ₁Q₂ / r² (Where k = 1/4πε₀)
If one charge was positive and the other was negative , Then?
The force F is negative.
If the particles are twice as far , then?
The force is quarter of the previous one.
The formula for electric field strength.
E = Q/ 4πε₀r²
What happens to the potential energy of a positive charge as it is moved closer to a like charge.
It’s potential energy increases.
The formula for the work done on a charge.
W = QV
What is electric potential?
The E.P at a point is equal to the work done in bringing unit positive charge from infinity to that point.
Equation for electric potential.
V = Q/ 4πε₀r
The relationship between field strength and potential
Field strength = potential well or -potential gradient.
For parallel electric field lines , the field strength is….
Constant.
