Charged Particles Flashcards
What angle is the force due to a magnetic field?
Always 90 to the velocity.
Equation of magnetic force on a moving particle at right angles to a magnetic field.
F = BQv (If the particle is moving at an angle F= BQvsin0)
Equation for centripetal force produced by magnetic force.
Bev = mv²/r
Equation of velocity when the electric and magnetic field forces are equal.
Since Ee = Bev
And E = V/d
Therefore, v = V/Bd
Equation to calc. charge to mass ratio. (Based on magnetic force being the centripetal force).
Q/m = v/Br
OR
Q/m = 2V/r²B²
Equation of velocity when the electric and magnetic field forces are equal.
Since Ee = Bev
And E = V/d
Therefore, v = V/Bd
Hall voltage increases as…..?
Magnetic flux density increases.
Equation for Hall voltage.
V = BI/ nte
OR
V = BId/ nAe
For a hall probe, why is a semiconductor used instead of a metal.
Cuz electrons in a semiconductor move faster than the electrons in a metal for a given current, so the effect is much greater. (Using equation I = nAve) (in S.C there are less electrons so they move faster.).
