Esteem is based more on individual achievements, social status, controlling one’s life

Gain more from doing one’s duty, contributing to the group, helping others. Also research shown that caregiver that has the most impact on power and discipline has the greater effect on self-esteem. Which caregiver this is, varies on culture. Can be mother, father, other
In nonwestern cultures-more adult who can show positivity leads to children having higher self-esteem. Extended family cares for children- see higher self-esteem than in western countries with 1 or 2 caregivers
