correlations Flashcards
what is a correlation
the measurement of which pairs are related on 2 variables tend to change together
what are co-variables
they measure directly from the researchers that is gathered from secondary sources
what can correlations be plotted on
a scatter graph
what kind of correlations can be shown
positive, negative,no correlation
what is a coefficient
the strength and type of agreement between 2 variables
what ios the stats tests called needed to work out the coefficient and determine the significance of the relationship
spearman’s Rho
what is a curvilinear correlation
a predicatbale relationship (eg starts to increase to a point then decrease)
2 strengths of correlations
-reliable
-they control for participant variables
2 weaknesses of correlations
-cannot infer cause and effect
-there are problems with using secondary data
