What is corporate culture?
The way that things are done inside a firm, and the way things are expected to be done. It reflects a businesses values and is important in shaping the expectations and attitudes of staff.
How is corporate culture influencial on performance?
It dictates staff behaviour, which includes how they plan, set objectives and strategize. As well as how motivated and productive staff are.
How is a corporate culture established?
Created and reinforced by the rules and standards set in a business as well as behaivour by managers and who is recruited and how they are trained to adapt and fit into the business model. People being employed should share values and ideals with the business and be trained to reflect the culture.
How can a culture be identified?
Through looking at founders, the businesses history, symbols that represent the businesses vakues and culture like mottos and slogans.
How is a strong culture created? What are the benefits of this?
Where a businesses core values are reflected in all business activities, it is strongest when all employees buy into it and share the values. This is beneficial as staff need less supervision as it is more likely they will act in a way which is representative of the businesses values and in line with the culture. Also if people identify with a culture, they are more likely to remain at the business, reducing labour turnover. Also can increase motivation and productivity, when staff feel they should be working hard without being made to.
When is a business culture weak?
Where employees do not share the values of a business and feel forced to comply.
What are the four types of corporate culture?
Power, role, person and task culture.
