What is coronary heart disease?

A

When the coronary arteries become blocked with the build up of fatty material. This results in less blood flow to the heart, reducing its oxugen supply, which may lead to a heart attack.

What are 2 solutions to coronary heart disease?

A

1) Metal mesh tubes inserted in arteries - keeps the arteries open to allow blood to flow through.
Negatives: blood can clot near tubes
Positives: lower risk of heart attack

2) Drugs that reduce levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) - which causes the disease
Negatives: needs to be taken continuosly
Positives: lower risk of stroke, coronary heart disease and heart attack
