What does plasma do?
A
a liquid that carries the components in the blood

What does red blood cells do?
A
- they carry oxygen molecules from the lungs to all cells in the body
- bioconcave shape provides large surface area
- no nucleus allowing for more room to carry oxygen
- contains haemoglobin

What do white blood cells do?
A
- part of the immune system (the body’s defence system against pathogens)
- have a nucleus
- A range of types: those that produce antibodies, those that digest pathogens & those that produce antitoxins to enutralise toxins

What do platelets do?
A
- help blood clot at the site of wound
- the clot dries and hardens to form a scab, which allows new skin to grow underneath while preventing microorganisms from entering
- small fragements of cells
- no nucleus
