What are the conduits harvested and the pros and cons of each type of conduit?
Why might 1 type of conduit may be favoured over another?
Angiogram which shows where the blockages are.
LIMA or RIMA harvested - top end is already anastomosed to the aorta.
Saphenous vein from leg harvested - veins have thin walls with valves
Radial artery - thicker wall, used to higher blood pressures
Reasons for choosing 1 conduit over another:
If patients have a negative Allen’s test for radial artery then need veins and mammary
If patient has varicose veins then vein conduits may not be suitable for grafting as flow down the graft may be compromised therefore artery better.
