Coronary Arteries Flashcards
What are sulci?
Groove on surface of the heart/brain. In the heart, coronary arteries lie on them.
Where do the left and right coronary arteries arise from?
Ascending aorta
Where do cardiac veins return blood to?
Venous blood is returned to the coronary sinus which enters the right atrium
What areas of the heart does the right coronary artery supply?
Conducting system of the heart
Left atrium
Most of left ventricle
Part of interventricular septum
What does the right coronary artery branch into?
Branches to SAN and AVN
Right marginal artery
Posterior interventricular artery
What does the right marginal artery supply?
The inferior border of the heart
What does the posterior interventricular artery supply?
PIV is continuation of right coronary on inferior surface. Runs in posterior ventricular sulcus, supplies both left and right ventricle.
Where does the left coronary artery supply?
Parts of the conducting system of the heart
Left atrium
Most of left ventricle
Part of the right ventricle
Part of interventricular septum
What does the left coronary artery branch into?
Before branch: left main stem
Anterior interventricular artery or LAD
Circumflex artery
Describe the LAD/ interior interventricularartery
Runs in the anterior interventricular sulcus towards apex
Supplies both ventricles
Diagonal branches arise from it
Describe the circumflex artery
Runs onto anterior/diaphragmatic surface of the heart
Supplies left atrium
Part of right ventricle
Left ventricle
Branches into left marginal artery - supplies left ventricle
