Corneal Immunology (M2) Flashcards
Where do corneal dendritic cells come from?
- myeloid (Bone-marrow)
2. lymphoid lineages (lymph nodes, thymus, tonsil, spleen)
Where are corneal dendritic cells more numerous?
More numerous peripherally than centrally
When do T cells interact with dendritic cells?
Once “mature” and have MHC II
Where are macrophages located in the cornea?
basal stroma
Where are PMN’s from that are in the cornea (and how long does it takes for these to be present)?
- limbal blood vessels (within 12 hours)
2. lacrimal gland and are present in tears (within 6 hours)
What does lactoferrin and lipocalin do in the cornea?
makes iron unavailable for bacteria
What immune mechanism binds to surface pathogens to help prevent access to ocular surface?
IgA + secretory component
What immune mechanism binds Gram positive bacteria and kills cell via lipolytic enzymatic activity?
Secreted PhospholipaseA2 (sPLA2)
