core studies - developmental Flashcards
What are the assumptions of this area?
assumes behaviour is influenced by both internal and external factors, behaviour changes as we develop and that development happens in stages.
What are some applications of these assumptions in real life?
They are applied in teaching and learning, play therapy, and dealing with children’s behavioural problems.
strengths of developmental psychology as a whole
useful: can be applied to improve children.
Deterministic: can help add to the nature nurture debate, can explain why individuals of differing ages have different abilities
weaknesses of developmental psychology as a whole
Ethical issues: often uses children in the research sample, red flags for consent and protection.
Too Deterministic: same age related research, assumes all children, will behave similarly when this isn’t always the case
