Graphic Designers
Graphic design requires intelligence, knowledge, talent and skill and an affinity for images, words and media. Hired by both ad agencies and corporations, graphic designers create layouts and designs for logos, packaging, advertising, marketing collateral and other published materials in print and online. They are responsible for selecting and arranging artwork, creating illustrations, choosing colors and influencing the concept for the design. They also conduct press checks

- How many ppl are on your creative services team?
- What are the typical end deliverables of your company/agency? Do you have a specialty?
- Describe your clientele. How many clients do you serve?
- How many projects per week/month/quarter will this person work on?
- What software expertise do you require?
- Will this person manage anyone?
- Will this person attend or run press checks?
Production Artist
PA are typically the last ppl to touch the file before publication. They assist design teams in graphic production for collateral, packaging, display and advertising projects.
They are often responsible for reviewing final designs and layouts and may suggest improvements and modify formats to increase production quality and accuracy. They also perform scaling, cropping, retouching and re-positioning prior to production.
Most employers prefer candidates to have some post secondary education such as a certificate or associates degree in fine arts or graphic design. Like designers PAs must be able to work collaboratively on a team, interact well with clients and remain calm under pressure

Presentation Specialist
Used in most industries to present information, persuade buyers, strike, deals with clients, or disseminate information to employees. Typically they’re created in PowerPoint and a specialist who is skilled and experienced in creating presentations can be a great corporate asset. Presentation specialists use software such as Powerpoint to create presentations that clearly express the information that the company wants to get across, while also appealing to the audience aesthetically and persuasively. They can include text, graphics, graphs and illustrations and usually display the business’ branding elements. Whenever there is an issue with the Powerpoint program the specialist troubleshoots the problem.
Possible questions RE Presentation Specialists
- What team will they be on? Who would they report to?
- How are presentations used in your company? Who delivers them? Will this person be developing executive level presentations?
- Do the presentations have a lot of graphics and illustrations? Are they provided or do you need someone who can create those?
- Do you have templates or will this person need to create them?
- How many projects per week/month/quarter will this person work?
- Besides PP what software expertise is required?
- Will this person manage anyone?
Proofreader
Another large part of editing especially in the world of books and newspapers is proofreading. Proofreading is essential to ensure consistency and quality control throughout a company’s internal and external communications. Mistakes look unprofessional and too many of them can have a negative impact on a company’s image. Goal is ensure zero errors. They check for obvious errors such as typos,etc but also look for layout issues.
Possible questions RE Proofreaders
- Describe the project. Length, deliverable, word count, usage, timeline,etc
- Why do you need a full time proofreader? What is the volume of the work and what projects would typically come across his/her desk?
- What team mates will they work with?
- How will they deliver feedback/changes?
- With what style guides will the proofreader need to be familiar?
