What is a Copy Denture?
A
duplication with or without modifications of a patient’s existing denture.

Describe the technique required to make a copy denture.
A
- record OVD, RVD, freeway space and decide if OVD needs increasing or kept the same.
- position dentures into duplication flasks to record the teeth and polished surface.
- remove excess alginate and expose the denture borders before applying separating medium.
- pour the impression material into the fitting surface of the denture.
- select tooth shade, fill out lab card and disinfect to send to lab.

Advantages of Copy Dentures
A
- similar shape to previous denture so pt can adapt easily
- fewer clinical stages
- not as many imps needed
- can produce a spare set for the pt
- appearance can be maintained or changed depending on what the pt likes/doesn’t like.

Indications for a copy denture:
A
- pt would like a spare set and is satisfied with the current denture function and aesthetics.
- staining of current denture
- worn teeth / overclosure
- fractured baseplate or teeth in an otherwise functional denture.
