COPM Overview Flashcards
COPM (Canadian Occupational Performance Measure) Overview
Can complete in 20-30 minutes for an experienced clinician with any client
Can include family as the “client”, particularly if client has a cognitive limitation
Clients identify the occupations that they want to do, need to do, or are expected to do. Encourage clients to think about a typical day and describe the occupations that they typically do when interviewing.
COPM Steps
Step 1: The first inquiries of the client’s perceived needs, and the second
Step 2: inquiries address performance & satisfaction.
Rating scales: 1 – 10 with 1 = not important/satisfying at all and 10 = extremely important/ satisfying.
Step 3: the client is asked to choose five problems that seem most pressing or important. Then they rate each problem with a self-evaluation of his /her performance in that area and a self-evaluation of his/her satisfaction with the current performance.
Client centered/Individualized (PxExO)
Incorporates roles and role expectations of the client (client empowerment to decide goals and path therapy takes; was challenging at first with medical model)
Not norm-referenced because every client is different, be flexible
Helps the OT with a framework for the initial evaluation
