Bystander Effect
-avoid or ignore when in a large group because people surronding you are not paying attention
Cognative Dissonance
-feeling discomfort when we have two or more inconsistent values/morals
Deindividuation
-lowering someones sense of identity and responsibility because they are lost in the mob
Diffusion of Responsibility
-surely someone else will take action so I won’t
False Consensus Effect
-overestimating how much our values and beliefs overlap
Fundamental Attribution Error
-overestimating internal/personal characteristics
-underestimating influence of environment
Group Polerization
-more certain of my ideas when I am with like-minded people (on both sides)
Groupthink
-accept group decision and suppress alternative so I don’t rock the boat
Normative Social Influence
-going along because I think this is the right thing to do according to the standard of the group
Self-Fufilling Prophecy
-belief influences behaviour which results in behaviour producing outcomes that are consistant with the beliefs
Self-Serving Bias
-thinking about or presenting myself in ways that make me look/feel good
Social Contagion
-more people think and feel this way because they have seen that others feel this way
Social Loafing
-slacking off because you share responsibility as a group
Representativeness Heuristic
-making a judgement or decision based on how consistant it is with a typical member of the group
Contact Hypothesis
-prejudice decreases with more and more contact with the social group
