-airflow limitation due to a combustion of obstructive bronchiolitis + emphysema
what is the main risk factor for COPD?

what are other risk factors for COPD?
POLLUTION AND OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES , GENETIC FACTORS
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT FOR COPD for non-asthmatic side effects?
STEP 1: SABA or SAMA
STEP 2: LAMA +LABA discontinue THE SAMA
STEP 3: if patient has severe exacerbation or 2+ moderate ones in a year give LAMA+ LABA+ ICS
-If non-asthmatic feels no change after 3 months, revert back to LAMA + LABA
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT FOR COPD for asthmatic side effects?
STEP 1: SAMA or SAMA
STEP 2: LABA + ICS discontinue SAMA
STEP 3: LAMA+ LABA + ICS
-If not improvement then theophylline, oxygen therapy mucolytics
what should all COPD patients have given to the?
-SABA throughout all stages of therapy
-offer pnemococcal and influenza vaccine
what is used to treat COPD exacerbation in the last year? rescue pack
a rescue pack
-amoxicillin
-doxycycline
-clarithromycin, avoid if taking prophylactic azithromycin as they are both macrolides
what non-drug treatment should be taken?
-positive expiratory pressure helps sputum clearance
what drugs can be used in a COPD exacerbation?
-SAMA/SABA (withhold LAMA if SAMA given)
-In hospitalised short term course of prednisolone 30mg for 7 days along with other therapies
-community: short course prednisolone if significant breathlessness
-aminophylline added if inadequate response to nebulised bronchodilators
-oxygen if need to keep oxygen saturation’s of arrival blood levels in range
why dont you give a SAMA and LAMA at the same time?
because the muscarinic SE will be too much for patient
