Coordination and Control Measures Flashcards
What is the primary goal of Airspace Control?
To ENHANCE EFFECTIVENESS of joint and multinational air operations.
What is the role of the AC?
Develops airspace control plan.
What are the two other duties the JFACC will have?
ACA and AADC
What are the two methods of airspace control?
Positive and Procedural Control
Define Positive Control
Requires sensors to locate airspace users….
Describe Maneuver Control Measures
Establish by supporting, supported commander on the surface to define lines of responsibility.
Define Boundary Line
Delineates surface areas for deconflicting adjacent units or AOs.
Define Phase Line
A line utilized for control and coordination, usually easily identifiable feature
Define FLOT
A line that indicates the forward most position of troops, not to include recon, SOF elements
Define Axis of Advance
General area through which the bulk of a units combat power must move.
Define Objective
A location used to orient operations, can be terrain or force oriented.
Define Engagement Area
An area where to commander intends to mass all available effects on the enemy.
Battle Position
A defensive location for a unit to carry out its mission.
Attack by Fire Position
General position from which a unit engages the enemy from a distance.
Describe Airspace Coordinating Measures
Employed to facilitate the efficient use of airspace
Define Coordinating Altitude
An ACM that uses altitude to separate users and transitions between ATC elements. Measured in MSL.
Define Coordination Level
An ACM below which FW will normally not fly. Used to separate RW and FW. Measured in AGL.
Define Air Corridor
Restricted Air Route for the purpose of preventing friendly aircraft from being fired on by friendly forces.
Define FSCM
Employed by commanders to facilitate the rapid engagement of targets and simultaneously provide safeguards for friendly forces
What are the two types of FSCM
Permissive and Restrictive
Define Coordinated Fire Line
A line beyond which direct and indirect fire support systems may fire without additional coordination.
Define Fire Support Coordination Line
Established by Land/Amphib CDR beyond which all fires against which all surface targets must be coordinated for.
Define Battlefield Coordination Line
A USMC-specific FSCM
that facilitates the
expeditious attack of
surface targets of
opportunity between
the measure and the
FSCL
Define a Free Fire Area
A specific area into which any weapon can fire without additional coordination.
Define a Kill Box
A 3D permissive FSCM with and associated ACM used to facilitate fires integration. Air Interdiction.
What are the two types of Kill Box?
Blue Kill Box (BKB) - Air to Surface
Purple Kill Box (PKB) - Subsurface, surface to to surface, and air to surface
Define a Restrictive Fire Line
A specific boundary
established between
converging, friendly
surface forces that
prohibits fires or their
effects from crossing
Define a No Fire Area
An area designated by the commander into which no fires are allowed. Except as approved by HQ.
Define a Airspace Coordination Area
A 3D block of airspace
in a target area,
established by the
appropriate
commander, in which
friendly aircraft are
reasonably safe from
friendly surface fires
Define a Restrictive Fire Area
Area which fires are restricted by ammo types, caliber, fuze, etc.
What are the two types of ACA?
Formal
Informal
What does an effective ACA do?
Allow freedom of action for air and surface fire support for the greatest number of targets
