Coordinating Measures Flashcards
Describe Maneuver control measures
Graphical or oral measures given to subordinate commands to assign responsibilities, coordinate fires and maneuver, and control combat operations
Define phase line
recognizable terrain feature extending across zone of action
Define fire support area
Maneuver area assigned to fire support ships by maritime commander from which they deliver surface fire support ashore
Define bullseye
established air reference measure from which objects can be referenced by magnetic bearing and range
Define air control point
point defined and used for nav, comm, or C2 - may be terrain associated or an electronic navaid
Define contact point
position where a mission leader makes radio contact w/ an air control agency
Define SARDOT
special bullseye point used for personnel recovery
Describe permissive fire support control measures
Facilitate attack of targets without further coordination w/ establishing commander if certain circumstances are met
Define Free fire area
area into which any weapon system may fire without additional coordination with establishing HQ
Define Kill Box
3 dimensional permissive FSCM w/ an associated ACM used to facilitate the integration of fires
Purple - allows DAS and surface fires
Blue - DAS w/o surface fires
Define fire support coordination line
facilitate expeditious engagement of targets of opportunity beyond the coordinating measure
Define battlefield coordination line
FSCM based on METT-T that facilitates expeditious attack of targets w/ surface indirect fires and USMC aviation fires between the BCL and FSCL
Define Coordinated fire line
line beyond which conventional surface - surface direct and indirect fire may fire @ anytime within boundaries of establishing HQ without additional coordination
Describe restrictive FSCM’s
Provide safeguards to friendly forces
4 types of Restrictive FSCM’s
Restrictive Fire Line
Airspace coordination area
Restrictive Fire Area
No Fire Area
Define Restrictive Fire Line
line between converging friendly forces that prohibits fires across line w/o coordination with affected force
Define Airspace coordination area
Ensures aircrew safety and effective use of indirect supporting surface fires by deconfliction of time and space
Define restrictive fire area
area where specific restrictions are imposed and in which fires that exceed those restrictions will not be delivered w/o coordination
Define no fire area
Area where no fires or effects are allowed
2 Exceptions - HQ temporarily approves on mission basis or self defense
Describe airspace coordination measures
employs efficient use of airspace to accomplish missions while simultaneously providing safeguards for friendly forces
3 types of airspace coordinating measures
Air corridor
ROZ
Stand alone
Define Air corridor
specific route to prevent being fired upon by friendly forces (Min risk routing or transit route)
Define restricted operations zone (ROZ)
Airspace reserved for specific activities in which the operation of one or more airspace users is restricted
Define stand alone ACM
High density airspace control zone - airspace designated in ACP or ACO w/ concentrated employment of numerous and varied weapons and airspace users
Describe air and missile defense measures
Measures planned, coordinated, and employed to facilitate responsibilities for ID , detection, and tracking to engage ENY air and missile threats as directed by the area Air and missile defense commander
Fighter engagement zone
airspace of defined dimensions where responsibility for engagement of air threats rests w/ fighter aircraft
Missile engagement zone
Airspace where responsibility for engagement of air threats rests w/ surface to air missiles
Joint engagement zone
airspace where multiple air and missile defense systems are simultaneously employed to engage air threats
Base defense zone
missile defense zone established around an air base
