Grilling
A quick way to cook food under gas or electric grill
Boiling
Food is cooked in boiling water and rapid bubbles
Simmering
Food is cooked at simmering point in just a little liquid
Stewing/Casserole
A slow method of cooking meat or vegetables by simmering them. this can be done in the oven or on the hob.
Poaching
Food is cooked in hot liquid which gently bubbles.
Steaming
Food in not in contact with the water but cooks in its own steam.
Stir-Frying
A quick method of cooking at very high temperatures
Deep Fat Frying
Food cooks in its own fat
Roasting
Roasted food has some fat spooned over it to stop it drying out
Basting
Meat or vegetables are cooked in the oven with a little fat
Baking
Food is cooked in the dry heat of the oven
