conveyors Flashcards
a mechanized device used to move materials in relatively large quantities bet. specific locations over a fixed path
CONVEYOR
- a conveyor that consists of a series of parallel rotating bars that moves goods along to their end destination
- can carry loads up to 25,000 lbs
- relies on a blend of gravity created by the angle of the belt and propulsion from the moving rollers
- $60-$1000
ROLLER CONVEYOR
- A conveyor on which material is transported along solid pans by the scraping action of crossbars that are connected by chains
- a transport device that make use of continuous chain circuits driven by electric motors to convey material
- can handle loads up to 20,000 lbs
- costs range from $2000-$60,000
CHAIN CONVEYORS
-most commonly used in heavy industries such as steel production plants and the mining industry to move aggregates like coal, ore, foundry fly ash, slag, or scrap metal
PROJECTION FITTED CHAIN CONVEYORS
- used primarily for applications involving mobility and space is a high priority
- conveyors with movable design, allowing operators to bring it in the work site and position it as needed
- loads up to 1000lbs
- can fold up to 5-10 ft and extend up to 17ft
PORTABLE CONVEYOR
- based on the natural frequency principle.
- moves bulk materials with the assistance of vibration to shake them, along belts, rollers, or troughs.
- can handle objects less than 1-90 lbs
- can reach speeds as high as 35 fpm
VIBRATING CONVEYOR
- a type of conveyor belt that is wound around a large drum, creating an ascending or descending spiral
- a device that uses an inclined, spiraling plane to move material
- used mainly for heating, cooling or accumulation
SCREW/SPIRAL CONVEYOR
the largest part of the spiral conveyor and the section that drives the belt itself
DRUM
- loop of materials that move parts or other items from one location to another
- used in a wide variety of material transport applications such as manufacturing, food processing, and heavy industry
- work on the principle of variable speed control
CONVEYOR BELT/BELT
*COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS OF CONVEYOR BELT
- Agriculture
- Construction - heavy building materials
- Food and beverage processing
- Forestry - logging, sawmill, paper pulp, etc.
- Mining and quarrying
- factory production line
belt width range
12 in to 120 in
- an elevated system similar to a floor-level conveyor belt that is used to transport items throughout a facility
- driven by a chain and is considerably thinner
- can be easily curved, so this conveyor is typically used in facilities that require a lot of twisting and turning before the item reaches its destination
OVERHEAD CONVEYOR
-the units that hold items, are generally rings or hooks, and each can hold a considerable amount of weight
TROLLEYS
*INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS OF OVERHEAD CONVEYOR SYSTEMS
- Painting - electrostatic, powder coating, fluidized bed, dip and conventional spray
- Washing - parts and dunnage
- Oven - Pre-heat, baking, drying, flash off and curing
- Transporting - products between work stations or plant operations to maximize floor space and increase efficiency
- Storage - finished goods, raw materials, work in process and tooling
