Converged Protocols Flashcards

Q

What are Converged Protocols

A

Are happens when you merge specialty or proprietary protocols with standard protocols such a TCP/IP. It provides the ability to use existing TCP/IP supporting network infrastructure to host special or proprietary services without the need to deploy different hardware.

Q

Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)

A

Used to encapsulate Fiber Channel communications over Ethernet networks. Usually, a Network Data Storage solution (SAN or NAS) that can allows for high speed file transfer of up to 128 Gbps.

Q

Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI)

A

A networking storage standard based on IP. Used to facilitate the connection of a remote storage volume over a network as if the device were attached locally.

Q

Multiprotocol Label Switching(MPLS)

A

WAN protocol that operates at both layer 2 and 3 and does label switching. It is a high throughput/high performance network technology that directs data across a network based on short path labels rather than longer network address.

Q

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

A

A tunneling mechanism that encapsulates audio, video, and other data into IP packets to support voice calls and multimedia collaboration. Combines audio and video encapsulation technology (application layer) with protocol stack of TCP/IP. Secure by Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Secure Real time Transport Protocol.

Q

Infiniband over Ethernet

A

A network protocol that allows remote direct memory access (RDMA) over an Ethernet network.
Provides a lower latency and higher throughput than Ethernet alone
