What does the abstract include?
Summary of the study’s aims, hypothesis, method, results, conclusions and implications.
What does the abstract do for the reader?
determine is the rest is worth reading.
What does the introduction include?
-Review of previous research that is relevant.
-Lead logically to the research so reader is convinced why you’re researching.
-Funnel; start basic then general
-End with them stating aims and hypothesis.
What does the method include?
Detailed description of what the researcher did. There should be enough detail for someone to precisely replicate it.
What are examples of what the method should include?
-Design
-Participants (sampling technique)
-Appartus
-Procedures
-Ethics
What do the results include?
-descriptive statistics
-inferential statistics
-Statement whether the null hypothesis is accepted/rejected.
If qualitative data the categories/themes are described with examples.
What does the discussion include?
Researcher aims to interpret the results and consider implications.
What are examples of what the discussion should include?
-Summary of results.
-Relationship to previous research
-Strengths and weaknesses
-Implications for theories and real world application
-Suggestions for future research
What do the references include?
Full details of any journal articles, book or website that are mentioned, written in a specific format using the APA style.
What do the appendices include?
Where any materials and raw data are present.
Tables, copies of a blank questionnaire etc.
What is the format for journal articles?
Authors’ name(s), date, title of article, journal article(italics), volume (issue number)(italics), page numbers.
What is the format for a book?
Authors’ names(s), date. title of book (italics), place of publication, publisher.
