What is the shutter?
A shutter opens and closes between the film and the lens, letting light in only when you have told the camera to do so
What is a pentaprism?
5 sided mirror that bounces your image into the viewfinder the right way
What does SLR stand for?
Single Reflex (camera) Uses a semiautomatic movement of the mirror, which produces the exact image in the viewfinder.
What viewfinders to Point and Shoot cameras have?
An optical viewfinder as opposed to a semiautomatic mirror. The image you see will not be exactly the same as what is being captured.
How do Digital Cameras work?
They use an electronic image sensor to digitally record an image.
Optical zoom
Works like a telephoto lens; the image quality stays the same as the image is magnified
Digital zoom
Crops the image and enlarges the cropped image to fill the frame of the camera. Generally results in a loss of quality.
What is a camera obscura?
A camera obscura is the same as a pinhole camera and the earliest form of photography. The only way of record this before chemical photography was invented, was to draw it.
