AI
Attitude Indicator - Formerly gyro horizon or artificial horizon. Informs pilot of orientation relative to earths horizon. Gives immediate indication of smallest orientation change.
VSI
Vertical Speed Indicator
What indicators are reference to determine an aircrafts performance?
Altimeter, airspeed or vertical speed indicator (VSI), heading indicator, and turn-and-slip indicator.
What instruments are included in the navigational group?
Course indicators, range indicators, glide-slope indicators, and bearing pointers.
VOR
Omni-directional radio range
VHF
Very high-Frequency
NDB
Nondirectional beacon
ILS
Instrument Landing System
What instruments does atmospheric pressure actuate?
Altimeter, air speed indicator, vertical speed indicator, & manifold pressure gauge.
This flight control system replaces the physical connection between pilot controls and the flight control surfaces with an electrical interface. What is it?
Fly-by-Wire
Fiber optic Cables
What is IFCS?
Intelligence Flight Control System - The goal of this project is to develop an adaptive neural network-based flight control system. Applied directly to flight control system feedback errors, IFCS provides adjustments to improve aircraft performance in normal flight, as well as with system failures.
What control systems consist of the primary system?
The ailerons, elevator (or stabilator), and rudder constitute the primary control system
What controls are part of the secondary control system?
Wing flaps, leading edge devices, spoilers, and trim systems constitute the secondary control system and improve the performance characteristics.
The amount of rudder control required is greatest at what points?
Low airspeeds, high AOA, and large aileron deflections.
What are the four aileron systems engineered to reduce the effect of adverse yaw?
Differential ailerons
Frise-type ailerons
Coupled ailerons & rudder
Flaperons
