What is glucose?
A sugar found in the body
What is Insulin?
A hormone that controls storage of glycogen in the liver
What is glycogen?
A storage of carbohydrates found in the liver and muscles
What is glucagon?
A hormone that breaks down glycogen into glucose
What is type 1 diabetes?
A condition where the pancreas produces little or no insulin
What happens if blood glucose levels are too high?
The pancreas released insulin, this makes the liver convert glucose into glycogen
When happens if blood glucose levels are too low?
The pancreas releases glucagon, this makes the liver convert glycogen into glucose and releases it into the blood
What is the pancreas?
It’s a gland and it secrete (gives out) hormones
What is type 2 diabetes?
It’s when the body becomes resistant to insulin, this is usually found in older people
What is a difference between type 2 and 1 diabetes’v
Type 1 is treated using injections of insulin and type 2 is resistant to insulin and it cannot function
Give 2 ways type 2 diabetes can be controlled
Eating a carbohydrate controlled diet and exercising regularly
