Control Process Flashcards
What is Robotics?
Devices that are programmed to do things by giving them a set of instructions
What is Bionics?
This is used alongside robotics. This is where nature is used when designing modern technology.
What is an example of Input?
Passive infrared sensors (PIR) are used in a robot’s arm and will tell the computer if it is near an object
What is an example of Output?
If the computer tells it to, the robotic arm will continue to move by a very small amount using a motor output device
What is an example of Processing?
The computer will decide whether to continue moving the arm depending on whether it is near an object. Real-time processing is required here for safety
Name 3 advantages of using robotics / bionics in control systems
Robots don’t need breaks and can work 24 hours a day
They do not need to be paid wages
Jobs can be carried out with greater accuracy and in dangerous situations
Name 2 disadvantages of using robotics / bionics in control systems
There is high initial cost of robotics in factories
Some staff are needed to maintain robots, assembly line jobs will be lost
