before the misuse of drugs act 2001 was introduced how were CDs supplied?
they were not supplied- now that it has been introduced there are some exceptions
what drugs are controlled?
narcotics
amphetamines and psychotropic drugs
Barbiturates •Benzodiazepines •Anabolic steroids•More recently, gabapentin and pregabalin
how do you classify CDs?
classify using schedules or classes
schedule 1-5(levels of CDs used as medicines) and A,B,C(deal with levels of penalty for illegal use or possession)
who decides the classification of CDs?
Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs advises the Government
is class A or C the most severe?
class A
what are the penalties for class A
up to 7 years for possession
up to life for dealing
what is diamorphine and what class is it?
it is heroine and it is class A
what are the penalties for class B?
up to 5 years for possession
up to 14 years for dealing
what are the penalties for class C drugs?
up to 2 years for possession
up to 14 years for dealing
what is schedule 1 ?
CD LIC
A license from the Home Secretary is necessary to possess, produce, supply, offer to supply, administer, or cause these drugs to be administered
when can a pharmacist take possession of a schedule 1 drug?
for the purpose of destruction/ or to hand it over to the police officer
what is schedule 2?
CD POM
A pharmacist may supply them to a patient ONLY on the authority of a prescription in the required form, issued by an appropriate practitioner
what is the exception in schedule 1 and 2’s that you don’t have to store in the CD press?
