What is the difference in contrast media and contrast medium?
Contrast media is plural
Contrast medium is singular
Why is it necessary to use a contrast agent?
To have different densities to adjacent structures to better view particular body parts/organs
What color does positive contrast media show up as?
White or radiopaque
What color does negative media show up as?
Black or radiolucent
What are types of negative contrast media?
Air or gas
What is a double contrast study?
It used air and barium or radiolucent and radiopaque agents
What are the two most common introduction sites of contrast?
Orally and rectally
What are common administration routes of contrast?
Ingestion
Intravascular

What is antegrade?
The normal route or flow of things such as from mouth to rectum
What is retrograde?
The opposite direction or flow of normal such as rectal to oral
What is a colloid suspension?
- Part not absorbed by the water but mixed with it
- Tends to settle out suspending agents
What are various forms of barium calculated by?
Weight to volume ratio
Why should barium not be used if there is a possibility of an intestinal perforation?
Pt could be metal poisoned by the barium
