A

Elderly with thin skin – minimal stretch (10-20%)
• Diabetics – lower extremities
• Those patients who don’t listen to instruction
• CLINICIAN ERROR – Too much stretch on the
tape.

A

-arteriosclerosis
-Thrombosis/ embolism
-severe varicose veins
-acute phlebitis
-cellulitis (is a bacterial infection of the skin that occurs most commonly on the lower legs and in areas where the skin is damaged or inflamed)
synovitis
-abscesses
-skin infections
-local cancers
-pregnancy
-acute inflammatory injuries

A
  • pregnancy
  • implanted electrical pacing device
  • cardiac arrhythmias
  • over the carotid sinus
  • hypersensitivity
  • reduced skin sensation
  • patients with aversion to electricity (strong dislike)
  • Pts who are allergic to electrodes, gel or tape.
  • Electrodes over dermatological lesion -no go

A

ABSOLUTE:

  • open wounds
  • uncontrolled hypertension
  • thrombophlebitis (nflammation of the wall of a vein with associated thrombosis, often occurring in the legs during pregnancy.)
  • Inflammatory conditions due to infection
  • contagious or infectious skin conditions
  • hematoma (a solid swelling of clotted blood within the tissues)
  • OSTEOMYELITIS
  • UNSTABLE FRACTURE -woops
Relative:
Cancer 
Burn scars 
kidney dysfunction 
-pregnancy 
-medications: antigoagulatns, steroids, hormone replacement, NSAIDS, 
-RA, 
-Lymphedema, 
-Chronic  regional pain syndrome
