Gout
CI for diuretics; increases uric acid retention in the body
Asthma
Beta blockers - can constrict airways - can recommend cardioselective Beta blockers if they are needed.
Parkinsons
Metoclopramide
Diabetes
Beta blockers - make it harder to tell when BG is low
Elderly in general
Sedating drugs; drugs that decrease blood pressure; anticholinergics - including confusion, dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, urinary retention, decreased perspiration, and excess sedation, and increased risk of dementia;
Peptic Ulcer Disease
Aspirin - GI bleeding
Heart failure
NSAIDs - worsens HF
Epilepsy
TCAs - Lowers seizure threshold, esp if toxic levels, metoclopramide, a lot of drugs tbh
Renal failure/decreased renal function
NSAIDs - renal failure
Any drug that is excreted by the kidneys realistically (penicillins, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, tetracycline, BBs, diuretics, Li+, digoxin, procainamide, cimetidine, ranitidine, etc.)
Congestive HF
CCBs - Worsens HF
