Contraction & Movement Flashcards
1
Q
8 stages of muscle contraction
A
- signal from brain –> ACh release into synaptic cleft @ NMJ
- ACh binds to receptors & turns on action potential
- Calcium leaves SR
- Calcium opens binding spots on actin
(calcium binds to troponin & pull tropomyosin away from actin) - Calcium & ATP allow myosin to attach to actin = cross-bridge
- myosin pulls actin toward midline
- ATP cause myosin to release for power stroke
- signal stops –> Ca back to SR, myosin releases, & actin goes back to OG
2
Q
define partial
A
muscle tone; continous & passive contraction
3
Q
define isotonic
A
muscle shortens but tension is same
4
Q
define isometric
A
tension increases but muscle length is constant
5
Q
What kind of action generates movement?
A
isotonic
6
Q
Define insertion
A
pnt of muscle attachment to more moveable part
7
Q
define origin
A
pnt of muscle attachment to a more fixed part
8
Q
define action
A
body of muscle
9
Q
define prime movers/agonist
A
does movement
10
Q
define antagonists
A
relaxed during movement
11
Q
define synergists
A
helping muscles
