What are other benefits of the combined pill?

A
  • Regulate / Reduce bleeding.
  • Stops ovulation, therefore may help stop premenstrual syndrome.
  • Reduction in functional ovarian cysts.
  • 50% reduction in ovarian and endometrial cancer.
  • Improves symptoms of acne / Hirsutism
  • Reduction in benign breast disease, rheumatoid arthritis, colon cancer and osteoporosis.

Side effects of the combined pill?

  • Breast tenderness
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Irregular menses first 3 months
  • Weight gain
  • Increased risk of DVT
  • Increased risk of cervical cancer.
  • Should avoid is history of gallbladder / liver disease
  • Increased risk of breast cancer.
