When is the highest chance of pregnancy?
Days 8 - 19 in the menstrual cycle.
What two hormones are found in the Combined pill / patch / ring?
Ethinyl Estradiol
Synthetic Progesterone
How often should the combined pill be taken?
Daily for 21 days.
How often should the pill be taken?
Weekly change.
Better if Pill upsets the GI system.
How long does the Nuvaring last?
Changed every 3 weeks.
Can be taken out for 3 hours daily, so can be convenient for sex.
This is a latex free option.
What are other benefits of the combined pill?
- Regulate / Reduce bleeding.
- Stops ovulation, therefore may help stop premenstrual syndrome.
- Reduction in functional ovarian cysts.
- 50% reduction in ovarian and endometrial cancer.
- Improves symptoms of acne / Hirsutism
- Reduction in benign breast disease, rheumatoid arthritis, colon cancer and osteoporosis.
Side effects of the combined pill?
- Breast tenderness
- Nausea
- Headache
- Irregular menses first 3 months
- Weight gain
- Increased risk of DVT
- Increased risk of cervical cancer.
- Should avoid is history of gallbladder / liver disease
- Increased risk of breast cancer.
