What is contraception?
When a couple use methods to prevent pregnancy.
What is the natural method?
Not having sexual intercourse during the woman’s fertile period.
What are the artificial methods?
Condoms and contraceptive implant or pill
What are condoms?
A barrier that covers the penis and prevents sperm from entering the vagina.
How do contraceptive pills and implants work?
Hormones taken by the female to prevent ovulation occurring.
How can men surgically prevent pregnancy?
Cutting the sperm duct so that sperm will not be able to travel to the penis
How can women surgically prevent pregnancy?
Cutting or tying the fallopian tubes so that sperm cannot reach the eggs.
What is IVF?
In Vitro Fertilisation involves the sperm and egg being fertilised outside the body creating an embryo that’s then implanted in the womb.
What are ethical issues around IVF?
Since more than one embryo is made they often get destroyed and people think they should be used in stem cell research
What are societal issues around IVF?
IVF might allow people to pick certain characteristics and it’s not affordable for most.
