To prevent ovulation- tricks the body into thinking patient is pregnant to prevent LH and FSH surging therefore stopping an egg being released

Causes oestrogen and progestogen conics to fall causing oestrogen-primed endometrium to slough mimicking menstruation (withdrawal bleed)

Mestranol
