Hypertension
anticonvulsants/ other drug interactions
migraine with aura
obese, over 35
DM
Advantages of progestin only pills?
contain no estrogen (safe for women who cannot tolerate estrogen, lactating women)
does not suppress lactation
safer in smoker
what is a difference between contraceptive patch vs OCPs
Patch has possible increased risk of venous thromboembolism
what is the mechanism of action of IUDs?
Inhibition of sperm migration, fertilization or ovum transport
what is a risk with depo-provera
risk of osteopenia (weak bones); especially in the first 2 years of use
what is the mechanism of action of Plan B?
Inhibits ovulation, interference with fertilization or tubal transport, altered endometrial receptivity to implantation, regression of corpus luteum
what is another option for Emergency contraception?
paragard IUD can be inserted within 5 days of unprotected intercourse for emergency contraception
