What are contour lines
Imaginary lines joining all places of equal height above sea level. They indicate the height and shape of the ground.
Explain close lines vs evenly spaced.
Close = land is steep Spaced = flat or gentle sloping
What would a water course contour look like?
Line defining the lowest part of a valley q
What would a watershed contour line look like?
A ridge of land separating two drainage basins.
What is a river?
A flowing passage of water. Not recommended to follow us typically has dense vegetation and might have dried up.
What is a basin?
An area drained by a river or an area of fairly level ground in between hills.
What is a crest?
The highest point of a hill or mountain
What is a gorge
Deep ravine with steep sides.
What is an escarpment?
the steep hillside formed by a sudden drop in the general ground area level.
What is a ridge line? Define and draw.
A line along a hill or range of hills from which water flows the opposite direction.
What is a saddle? Define and draw.
A depression or dip between two higher points.
What is a spur? Define and draw.
A minor feature in a ridge running out from a hill or mountain.
What is a knoll? Define and draw.
A low detached hill.
What is a Gully? Define and draw.
A dished out portion of a slope which often contains a creek or water course.
What are reference trees?
Marked trees with a carving on a white glaze. Provides forestry grid reference.
