Contexts Flashcards
Literary context is…
…the least broad context we we typically think if first; considers the GENRE and literary devices that the author uses and the passage’s meaning inside the paragraph, chapter, and the book that it is in.
Note: all the letters in the original language were jumbled together without spaces or paragraphs or verses in order to save space
Historical context…
Considers the time, and culture of the author and his readers, (geographical, topographical, and political factors that are relevant to the author’s setting and the occasion and purpose of its writing)
Theological context…
Considers how a verse fits within the author’s own theology (as evidenced by his other writings and the rest of scripture)
