test the phenomenon that patients with anorexia found it difficult to gauge their own body size and misjudge ability to fit through door frame
sample
25 female patients from ED clinic in france
12 diagnosed with restrictive type
13 diagnosed with binge eating and purging type
25 female control students
- group matched on age (avg24) and education (avg13)
procedure
51 different width shapes
30-80cm wide in random order
each door presented 4 times
ppts asked if they could walk through each door frame at normal speed without turning
* control had the same body type as researcher
evaluation
generalisability:
- only females
- only france

- lacks task and ecological
reliability:
- all ppts displayed similar results control had a better chance at guessing as they are the same body as researcher
ethics:
- psychological harm when people guess which is why you cannot have AN researcher
