5
Q

What is a typical shop institutional specification?

A

Constructed of either steel or concrete frame
Services capped off
Concrete floor and no suspended ceiling
Let in shell condition with no shop front, ready for retailers fitting out works.

6
Q

How could you determine whether a wall is cavity or solid brick?

A

Simplest way is to look at the pattern of the brick work…..cavity wall all the bricks are stretchers. Solid usually have combination of stretches and headers. BUT watch out for snapped header.

When were cavity walls introduced?

A

Post 1932. Before then it was typically solid walls. Between 1932-1982 it was more likely. Post 1982 almost certainly.

8
Q

What others checks can you do to find out if a wall is cavity or solid.

A

Measure from outside face through a door or window opening:
Less than 30cm solid
More than 30cm cavity.
