due process clause
14th amendment: No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the US; nor shall any any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law
right to privacy
bill of rights: right to privacy from government interference
equal protection clause
14th amendment: states have to treat everyone equally under the law
free exercise clause
1st amendment: “or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”— cannot prohibit free exercise of any religion
establishment clause
1st amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”— cannot promote religion via clauses or laws, cannot make a law favoring one religion over others
right to counsel
6th amendment: tenants have a right to a lawyer if they are ordered to appear in eviction court
