First Amendment
Establishes freedoms of religion, speech, press. Assembly, and petition. Video tape police actions, symbolic speech.
Not protected by 1st amendment
Obscenity, fighting words, threats, incendiary speech
Second Amendment
Establishes the right to keep and bear arms.
Fourth Amendment
Prohibits unreasonable searches or seizures by the government
Fifth Amendment
Protects citizens from double jeopardy and self- incrimination
Sixth Amendment
Requires all persons charged with a crime to be informed of charges against them. People charged with a crime have a right to counsel and speedy public trial by an impartial jury.
Eighth Amendment
Protects people from excessive bail or fines and prohibits cruel and unusual punishment.
14th Amendment
Provides the people of all states the right to “due process and equal protection under the Law” (Fair hearing and able to be heard when they believe they’re Const. Rights have been violated)
