Preamble
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Article I Legislative Branch
Section 1
All legislative powers shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives
Section 2-10
Cover the structure, powers, and limitations of Congress, (like taxation, commerce, and declaring war), and limits (e.g., no ex post facto laws).
Article II Executive Branch
Establishes the presidency, outlines the president’s powers (e.g., commander-in-chief, making treaties, appointing officers), and the process for impeachment.
Article III Judicial Branch
Establishes the Supreme Court and allows Congress to create lower courts. It defines judicial powers, jurisdiction, and treason.
Article IV States
Addresses state powers and limits, guarantees a republican form of government, and explains the process for admitting new states.
Article V Amendment Process
Describes how the Constitution can be amended.
Article VI Supremacy Clause
Declares the Constitution the supreme law of the land, requires oaths of office, and prohibits religious tests for public office.
Article VII Ratification
Explains the process for ratifying the Constitution
