1st Amendment
Freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, petition.
2nd Amendment
Right to bear arms/own guns.
3rd Amendment
Citizens cannot be forced to quarter soldiers.
4th Amendment
No illegal search and seizure (probable cause and search warrant)
5th Amendment
Rights of the Accused:
-can’t be tried for federal felony unless indicted by grand jury.
-no double jeopardy
-due process
-eminent domain
6th Amendment
Rights of People on Trial:
-trial by jury
-speedy and public trial
-right to an attorney
7th Amendment
In civil cases worth more than $20, you have the right to a jury.
8th Amendment
No cruel and unusual punishment- no excessive bail.
9th Amendment
Rights not specifically listed in the Constitution are automatically given to the people.
10th Amendment
Powers not specifically given to the federal government are given to state governments.
11th Amendment
Places limits on an individual’s right to sue states.
12th Amendment
President and vice president run for office as a team, instead of individuals.
13th Amendment
Abolition of slavery.
14th Amendment
Equal protection under law, guarantees rights of citizenship, due process.
15th Amendment
No person can be denied the right to vote based on race.
