1st Amendment
Freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, petition.
2nd Amendment
Right to bear arms/own guns.
3rd Amendment
Citizens cannot be forced to quarter soldiers.
4th Amendment
No illegal search and seizure (probable cause and search warrant)
5th Amendment
Rights of the Accused:
-can’t be tried for federal felony unless indicted by grand jury.
-no double jeopardy
-due process
-eminent domain
6th Amendment
Rights of People on Trial:
-trial by jury
-speedy and public trial
-right to an attorney
7th Amendment
In civil cases worth more than $20, you have the right to a jury.
8th Amendment
No cruel and unusual punishment- no excessive bail.
9th Amendment
Rights not specifically listed in the Constitution are automatically given to the people.
10th Amendment
Powers not specifically given to the federal government are given to state governments.
11th Amendment
Places limits on an individual’s right to sue states.
12th Amendment
President and vice president run for office as a team, instead of individuals.
13th Amendment
Abolition of slavery.
14th Amendment
Equal protection under law, guarantees rights of citizenship, due process.
15th Amendment
No person can be denied the right to vote based on race.
16th Amendment
Allows the federal income tax.
17th Amendment
Direct election of senators by the people.
18th Amendment
Prohibition of alcohol.
19th Amendment
Women’s suffrage (right to vote)
20th Amendment
Sets the dates of presidential and congressional terms (inauguration moved to Jan. 20).
21st Amendment
Repealed prohibition of alcohol.
22nd Amendement
President can only serve 2 consecutive terms (or 10 years*)
23rd Amendment
Citizens of Washington, DC can vote in Presidential elections.
24th Amendment
Outlawed the poll tax (had to pay to vote).
25th Amendment
Sets presidential succession (who becomes president if the president dies?).
26th Amendment
Voting age decreased to 18 years old.
27th Amendment
Congress cannot pass a pay raise for themselves that will take effect during their same term.

What is the establishment clause?
The government cannot set up a state religion.
What is the free exercise clause?
The right of individuals to practice their religion as they wish (within reason).
What is slander?
Knowingly and maliciously lying about someone.
What is libel?
Knowingly and maliciously printing a lie about someone.
What did the federal equal access act do?
bars public schools from denying access to the facilities of the school by religious groups if other groups are also granted access.
