What was the Articles of Confederation?
A document considered to be the first outline of government for the U.S, favored by federalists as it gave more power to the central government.
What did the Great Compromise do?
It created a balance between large and small states for how many representatives from each state would be present in congress.
How was the Three-Fifths Compromise impactful?
It gave 3 out of 5 slaves representation for the purpose of tax to the population. This mainly benefited slave owners of the south.
Federalist
People that supported a joint union that needed a strong central government, so they strongly supported the constitution as well. Key Leaders: Alexander Hamilton and James Madison
Anti-Federalist
People against the constitution because they felt it needed a Bill of Rights and they wanted more power to be given to the state governments. Key Leaders: Patrick Henry, George Mason
What is the purpose of the First Amendment?
To give freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition
Why was Shay’s Rebellion so important?
It showed how the citizens wouldn’t fall under the weakness of the Articles of Confederation. This lead up to the First Constitutional Convention.
What is the Second Amendment?
The Right to own Weapons
What was the Third Amendment?
The government wasn’t allowed to house soldiers on private property.
What was the 5th Amendment?
A person cannot be forced to testify against themselves, otherwise known as double jeopardy.
What was the 6th Amendment?
Everyone has the right to a speedy public jury trial and an attorney.
What was the 7th Amendment?
The right to a jury trial lawsuit when damages exceed $20
What was the 8th Amendment?
No cruel or unusual punishments
What was the 9th Amendment?
Rights not given to the government will belong to the people.
What was the 10th Amendment?
Rights not specifically given to the government will belong belong to the states.
