Enumerated powers
Powers that belong only to federal government
Ex post facto
A term for a law that makes an act a crime after it’s been committed
Concurrent powers
Powers that are shared between the federal and the state governments
Writ of habeas corpus
The requirement that a prisoner must be brought to court and there must be proof that he/she did something illegal(proof before arrested)
Separation of powers
The division of powers in government so that no one branch can take over and threaten the rights of the people
Due process of law
To guarantee fairness and justice, legal proceedings must follow the rules
Double jeopardy
If found not guilty in a criminal trial, you cannot be tried again for the same crime
Reserved/delegates powers
powers that are not given specifically given to the federal government are given to the states and local authorities

To testify against yourself in a trial
