Impeachment
To get rid of the president; must be a “High crime or misdemeanor”
Extradition
To send a criminal back to where the crimes were committed
Supremacy clause
The constitution is supreme law of the land; federal gov’t is supreme to state law
Treason
To go against your country
Ex post facto
After the fact; applies to actions done before the law is passed
“Elastic” Clause
“Necessary and proper” clause - congress can make all laws “necessary and proper”
Bill of attainder
Punish a person without trial
Enumerated powers
Listed powers that each branch has; this limits the power of government
Republic
Government with a constitution that protects individual freedom
Commerce clause
Expressed power that the federal government controls interstate trade in America
Habeas corpus
Government must show just cause for holding a prisoner
