Northwest ordinance of 1787
Created the northwest ordinance, which was the first organized territory that was created in America
Great compromise
It set up for the small and large states having power in government, and it set up what they get representatives for (population or equal number)
3/5 compromise
The compromise that let 3/5 African Americans to count into the population of the south, that way they wouldn’t have way to many representatives in the house
Federalists vs. antifederalists
Federalists- wanted to ratify the constitution, didn’t like the bill of rights,wanted a strong central government
Antifederalists- didn’t want to ratify the constitution, wanted the bill of rights, wanted a less centralized government
Hamilton vs. Jeffersons plans
Hamilton’s plans- didn’t think that the people should have any say, because they acted “foolish”, wanted to raise the voting qualifications, favored a strong central government, wanted to be like the British
Jefferson- he wanted people involved in the government, and he wanted them to have power, he wanted a weaker central government, with the state’s having more freedom, wanted to lower voting qualifications, wanted to move away from things the British did
Louisiana purchase
Louisiana purchase was when the US bought 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million
War of 1812
It was the war that lasted over 2 years, and it was between the British and America, and Ireland, and a few more allies, it ended up resolving a few of the issues that weren’t resolved prior to this in the revolutionary war.
Corrupt bargain of 1824
It was the thing that Adams did, in order for him to win the election over Jackson, he made it so that either Jackson would have to sign something that would make everyone who liked him hate him, or he would not even really be in the running
Jacksonian democracy
It was the type of government that Jackson wanted, where people would be running the government, through voting, political power etc. and political positions would not just go to those who were white and wealthy
Manifest destiny
It was the attitude and idea that people had that America should spread from coast to coast,cruise was during the 19th century
Strengths/ weaknesses of the articles of confederation
Weakness- it allowed for states to have to much freedom, it was as if they were all separate, no court systems were in place, it was one branch of government, etc.
Strengths- it did create some type of government, and it also set up congress
Immigration during the antebellum period
These were the Irish immigrants in the north, which was actually more like the selves of the north
Reform movements
It was the movements made in order to reform society, and make social changes.
