Articles of Confederation
the agreement made by the original 13 states in 1777 establishing a confederacy to be known as the United States of America
Declaration of Independence
document that was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, and that announced the separation of 13 North American British colonies from Great Britain.
