9
What are Stanislavski’s techniques (9)?
Concentration Physical Skills Voice Emotion Memory Observation Harmony Analysis Creativity Personalisation
Concentration
Demanded a high level of contraction, both physical and mental. Trained them in a range of concentration and relaxation techniques. CIRCLE OF ATTENTION
Physical Skills
Emphasised physical training. Physical movement and control were the keys to acting and he used exercises, mime work and dance to make his actors graceful and strong. Every movement has a reason.
Voice
Have to use voices more effectively as they’re more involved. Do regular voice exercises to improve diction, projection, resonance and expressiveness.
Emotion Memory
Tap into one of your own memories
Observation
Use observation to learn more about people and their behaviour and their behaviour.
Harmony
Work together with other actors in sync. Connect with each other and forget the audience.
Analysis
Analyse human behaviour and discuss every character in detail. Find the ‘super-objective’ behind the characters actions.
Creativity
The Magic ‘if’. What if? If I was in this situation what would I do?
Personalisation
Make the characters believe that the people on stage were real in every way. Fusion between actor and character must never be total as actors must be in control. Stepping in and out of people’s shoes.
